The clock ticks, and the glasses clink, the people kiss, the fireworks burst.
Modern civilization celebrates this day with much pomp and circumstance. People seek some way of starting fresh and thus, birthe a new, more fantastic, and impressive self. But in reality, resolutions fade. Life doesn't all of a sudden become cotton candy & unicorns because the last digit of a certain four number combination has changed.
However, I have experienced the greatest re-birth. The most extraordinary new start. So while this day provides a more poignant moment to reflect and analyze, I celebrate this day not in a fingers-crossed-I-hope-I-can-lose-50-pounds way, but in full gratitude of the year that has passed and great eagerness for what the new season brings.
I hear fireworks going off outside. Happy New Year.
